Admission to the Bachelor´s Programme Catholic and Protestant Church Music

Admission to the Bachelor´s Programme Catholic and Protestant Church Music presupposes the successfully passing of an entrance exam. The entrance exam consists of two parts (a theoretical and a practical part).

 

Several optionally registration deadlines are provided each year for the entrance exam: 13 January (entrance exam in January/February) for the Summer Term and 03 June (entrance exam in June/July) or 03 September (entrance exam in September) for the Winter Term.

The entrance consists of the following parts:

 

  • Theoretical part

Admission Test in Aural Skills and Music Theory

a) Aural Test

b) Music Theory Test 

c) Voice and Rhythm Test

The successful completion of this the theoretical part is a prerequisite for the participation in the practical entrance examination.

 

  • Practical part

    • Score reading of a prepared four-part motet, notated on four staves
    • Conducting three prepared works from different style periods
    • Vocal: Performance of a sacred aria and an art song as well as sight singing
    • Organ Literature: Performance of three pieces, one from the baroque era, one from the romantic era, one composed after 1930
    • Organ improvisation: Harmonize a given hymn from the Gotteslob or protestant song book
    • Piano: Performance of three pieces from different style periods

The entrance exam is passed when both parts are judged positively.

 

Please mind: After successfully passing the entrance exam you are not automatically admitted to the Study Programme – the enrolment has to be done personally at the Registrar´s Office (Palais Meran, Leonhardstrasse 15, ground floor, 8010 Graz) in time!
